Shore is Speedy, Umstead Trail Marathon Success

One2Tri Racing athletes proved this past weekend that adding local races into the mix of weekend training plans has tremendous gains....

While in Wilmington for a weekend training camp, Greg Shore, 23, claimed 1st place overall at the 2012 Cardinal Strut 10k with a time of 37:22 (6:01 pace....which was in the middle of his training run). Congrats on a strong training day Greg!

Greg Shore - 1st place OVERALL

One2Tri Racing Ultra-runners Tom Patch and Anji Nussbaumer braved the wind, rain and tornado warning at the 9th Annual Umstead Trail Marathon on Saturday. Despite the heinous weather, they both executed strong training races (marathons for these two right now are just training runs in prep for upcoming 50-100mile races). Congrats to Anji on her 8th place overall female finish!

Charlotte 10miler, Cycling Races, Team Mountain Ride

One2Tri Racing ran in style at the inaugural Charlotte 10miler and 4miler race on February 25 in South Charlotte. The event was a perfect distance at a great time of year to push out some strong training miles (especially miles 8-9 up "Heartbreak Hill") in prep for upcoming marathon and half marathon events. The strongly encouraged no headphones policy helped promote run safety and build camaraderie among fellow runners. Well done Start2Finish Charlotte! While some of us were out running in our awesome Scott Running shoes, fellow teammates were racing and training on their bikes. Michael Beacham and Keith Mrochek raced a tough cycling event - 52 mile Southern Cross in Dahlonega, Georgia. Joey Church raced in Greenville, SC at a CAT5 bike race, placing 9th overall. Way to go guys!

In prep for their upcoming Rev3, 70.3 and Ironman events, our triathletes Tim Ferguson, Jim Kunevicius, Greg Shore, Mike Starkey and Jonathan Story teamed up and headed out to the mountains for a strong climbing day.

Panama 70.3 - Jonathan Story racing fast & giving back

What an exciting day it was tracking the live coverage and tweets of the inaugural Ironman Panama 70.3 this past Sunday (2/12/12).  This event marked the comeback of seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong to the professional sport of triathlon. One of our newest teammates, Jonathan Story, kicked off his triathlon racing season at this exciting event and posted a solid performance. His time of 4:48.31 (with a 1:30 half marathon split!) placed him 12th in his age group (M30-34) and in the top 7% of all age group males. Way to go Story!

Jonathan Story and Chris Lieto, professional triathlete & More Than Sport Founder

But his impressive race results don't stop there. Post race, Story joined the efforts of professional triathlete Chris Lieto and his foundation More Than Sport (http://morethansport.org) and helped build homes for flood victims in the Darien Gap in the Rep. of Panama following the race. What an incredible way to give back to the communities that welcome us all with open arms on race day.

ABOUT MORE THAN SPORT

More than Sport began with the vision of Chris Lieto, Ironman champion, world record holder in cycling, and 3 time triathlon champion, who wanted to do more with his athletic ability than simply compete. Simply said: Chris founded More Than Sport to provide a way for athletes to invest in communities of need, particularly those we compete in.
We are able to improve the lives of children and communities around the world, when we become athletes who live for more than sport.
“MORE THAN SPORT ATHLETES DON’T JUST RACE TO WIN.

WE SEEK TO SET A PACE TO HELP THOSE THE WORLD FORGETS.
